Biography
- Herb Meyer is the athletic director at El Camino (CA) High School. In 2003, he retired as the head football coach at El Camino—a position he held for 28 seasons. Before that, he served in the same position at Oceanside (CA) High School for 17 years. The first football coach in California history to win 300 games, Meyer also became the first coach in California history to win at least 100 games at two different schools (112 at Oceanside; 226 at El Camino). He retired from coaching as California’s all-time winningest coach with 338 victories. He has been extensively honored for his exceptional career accomplishments, including being inducted into six different Halls of Fame. A 1955 graduate of Pomona College, where he earned 14 letters in football, basketball, baseball, and track and field, Meyer is one of the most highly respected interscholastic coaches in the history of the game.
