Biography
Stephen Tharrett, MS, is currently the president of Club Industry Consulting, a company that provides health/fitness club owners with an extensive array of services that include strategic planning, business planning, employee development programs, marketing, and facility design and development. Stephen has been involved in the fitness and sport industry for over 26 years. He served on the board of the International Health, Racquet and Sportclub Association (IHRSA) from 1994 to 1997 and as IHRSA president from 1996 to 1997. Stephen has also been a member of IHRSA’s membership committee. He was a contributing editor for the American College of Sports Medicine’s (ACSM) Health/Fitness Facility Standards and Guidelines, 1st edition, and as the co-editor for ACSM’s Health/Fitness Facility Standards and Guidelines, 2nd edition, released in 1997 and the 3rd edition of the same publication which was released in 2006. Stephen has also served ACSM in several additional capacities, including chairing the committee on health & fitness facilities, chair of the marketing sub-committee for the education and certification committees, and on the Association’s certification committee. He has also served as a member of the editorial advisory board for ACSM’s Health and Fitness Journal.
