Biography
- Jerry Weinstein is an assistant baseball coach at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, a position he assumed prior to the 2002 season. Weinstein has experienced success at every competition level in baseball during his exceptional career. He compiled an 831-208 record in 23 seasons as head coach at Sacramento City College, guiding the Panthers to 16 conference championships, two co-conference titles, a state title in 1998, and a national crown in 1998. His 831 career wins rank No.1 among all California community college baseball coaches. His previous college coaching stints include one season (1984) as assistant coach at Miami (Fla.) and two seasons (1966, 1968) as freshman baseball coach at UCLA. Weinstein also has served as assistant coach for two United States Olympic teams (1992, 1996) and one U.S. Pan American Games team (1987). Weinstein also has coached at Los Angeles Valley College (1972-’74), Santa Monica High School (1969-’71), and Pioneer High School in Whittier (1967). Weinstein is a member of the California Community College Baseball Hall of Fame and Sacramento City College Sports Hall of Fame. Twice (1988 and 1998), he was named National Community College Baseball Coach of the Year. In 1999, Weinstein served as catching coordinator for the Los Angeles Dodgers and was Director of Player Development for the Dodgers in 2000 and 2001. He also has managed several minor league teams for the Milwaukee Brewers, Montreal Expos, and Chicago Cubs.
